About this print
About this print
This phylogenetic tree maps the evolutionary relationships of 500 insect species - from beetles to butterflies, ants to dragonflies - arranged in a radial diagram that reveals the deep structure of the most diverse class of animals on Earth. Insects account for over half of all known living species, and this print captures that extraordinary variety.
The print draws on current molecular phylogenetics, presenting complex scientific data in a form that rewards both close examination and distant appreciation. See how the major insect orders relate to each other, discover unexpected connections, and appreciate the 400-million-year evolutionary history of these remarkable creatures.
Perfect for entomologists, biology educators, or anyone fascinated by the extraordinary diversity of insect life.
The Signature series
The Signature series
Signature is a collection of mathematical, scientific and infographic visualisations - prime number distributions, evolutionary trees, geological timescales, and other structures that become something unexpected when rendered at print scale.
Each piece begins as a data-driven computational process and is developed into a finished artwork through a combination of custom code and design refinement. The aim is not to illustrate mathematics but to make the underlying structures visible - to find the image that was always inside the data.
The series draws on fields including number theory, evolutionary biology, palaeontology, topology, and information design.
